Liver Disease

Avoid IBUPROFEN in severe liver disease
IBUPROFEN causes sodium and water retention in liver disease
IBUPROFEN - increased risk of gastrointestinal bleeding in liver disease

Renal Failure

Avoid IBUPROFEN if possible in mild renal failure
Manufacturer advises reduce dose of IBUPROFEN in renal failure
IBUPROFEN - reduces renal function in renal failure
IBUPROFEN - sodium and water retention in renal failure

Pregnancy

With regular doses of IBUPROFEN - increased risk of closure of fetal ductus arteriosus in utero & possible persistent pulmonary hypertension of the newborn
Delayed onset & increased duration of labour with increased blood loss
Avoid IBUPROFEN in the 1st TRIMESTER of pregnancy
Avoid IBUPROFEN in the 3rd TRIMESTER of pregnancy
Manufacturer advises toxicity of IBUPROFEN in pregnancy in animal studies

Lactation

Although IBUPROFEN not known to be harmful in breast feeding some manufacturers advise avoid
Amount of IBUPROFEN in breast milk too small to be harmful
